Michelle

I found this lovely email from my bride Michelle, sent last year. Michelle’s dress was a strapless one and although she loved it, she preferred one with a boat neck. From Michelle:

Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for all your hard work altering my dress. Your skill and eye for detail is clearly evident in the incredible quality of your work. The boat neck piece you created for my strapless gown turned it into my dream dress, and the fit was perfect! You were so calm, friendly and supportive every step of the way. I will be recommending you to every bride I know!

Michelle

For once, I didn’t do the bride’s dress

At one point, I did offer a made-to-measure suit service for grooms, but I got too busy with my bridal alterations that I now offer this service only when they are referred to me by my previous customers.

I don’t have many photos of the suits I’ve done – this one of Yvonne & Alex’s wedding is the only recent one – and so when the photographers at We Are Origami Photography kindly gave me permission to share their photos, I jumped at the opportunity.

I’ve selected a few pictures of the made-to-measure suit which I did for Alex and vests for his groomsmen. One of his groomsmen Ian was my customer a few years ago when he got married. (Thanks, Ian!)

The wedding was beautifully photographed. If you want to see more photos, go to We Are Origami Photography.

Bridal dresses from around the world

In my time altering wedding dresses, I have seen quite a few styles and designs. But invariably, they are all nearly the same colour – the popular ivory or similar. However, that’s not really the case elsewhere. Traditionally, most bridal dresses from the non-western world are not white. In fact, they are a burst of magnificent colours and textures, reflecting their rich cultures and backgrounds.

Quirky weddings

Weddings these days no longer have to go by the ‘traditional’ book. Couples are thinking outside the box when it comes to their big day.

Wedding dresses don’t have to be white, bridesmaids’ dresses don’t have to be in solid colours, and flowers can be… well, anything you want it to be, really.

Here are some quirky weddings that are unconventional, memorable and fun.
